BLIP festival wrap up

The squarewave ring in my ears finally faded, here´s a round up of the coverage from the Blip Festival 2006 in NYC - MAKE was a sponsor and had a table there with our kits and zines. The fest consisted of a small but growing community from around the world - there´s something delightful about artists, composers and makers creating music from tossed gaming machines that are almost as old as the performers.

Turn your DS into a MIDI keyboard

You might think the Nintendo DS is a kiddy console, but that notion is thrown out of the window with the introduction of the DSMIDIWiFi, turning your fun loving DS´ touch screen into a controller that sends wireless signals to a host program on your computer, making the melody in your head a reality. The DS MIDI Keyboard program turns your DS into a virtual MIDI keyboard along with pitch wheel/MIDI control adjustment while the Kaos DS is an XY controller that works just like a Kaoss pad. Last but not least, the Pulse DS will utilize the handheld console´s Programmable Sound Generator to produce synthesized MIDI tunes. You could say the DSMIDIWiFi is one of the best homebrew applications to come out in a long time.
