Transfer of the Day: Firefox 3.0 Alpha (Windows/Mac/Linux)

MS Windows, Mac and Linux: Sneak a peek at the next major release of Firefox, code-named Gran Paradiso. It promises some fairly robust architectural changes, many of which are intended to make web apps indistinguishable from their computer desktop counterparts. Says PC World:

Gran Paradiso features ameliorate back for a count of graphics standards, such as the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) language and the Canvas specification. It also backs the Cairo graphics library, which aims to make Web pages look the same whether they are being printed or viewed on a MS Windows PC, a Macintosh, or a small-screen device.

The alpha doesn´t look too different from Firefox 2.0, which shipped less than two months ago. The only immediately noticeable change is its souped-up navigation icons.

Indeed, only the most hardcore Firefox users will want to bother with this release, which is definitely targeted to developers. And because it´s an alpha, you should exercise caution in installing it on your primary machine. Even so, it´s always fun to peek under the hood of your favorite browser, if only to see how next year´s model is shaping up. XGameStation hacking rig

Brian picked up one of our XGameStation kits and took´er out for a spin...

This is an inventory of everything you need to do XGameStation hacking on the go. I´ve put notes in the picture, but here´s a heel too:

• XGameStation Pico
• Parallax SX-Key programmer
• KeySpan USB/Serial Adapter
• USB-powered video appropriate device (don´t get the one I´m using... it´s ancient)
• Fx Video Capture (DScaler doesn´t work nether Vista, but it would be my beginning choice)
• SX-Key IDE (I use 3.0 because 3.3 claimed there was an error in the racer demo code)
• 9v power source. You really want the wall-wart, because programming the SX28 is kind of rough on the battery.
